Devotion for Monday, June 10, 2019

“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help
come?  My help comes from the Lord, who
made heaven and earth.”  (Psalm 121:1-2)

Whom do you look up to?  What is your source for what you need?  The One who created all things is the only
One who can provide all that is needed.
Look to the Lord and His provision and be guided by the truth of all
that He says.  Know that the giver of
life is the One who knows all that is needed.
Come to the help of your neighbor and seek the LORD while He may be
found.

Lord, I look around me and seek all kinds of things.  Grant that my heart would not settle for anything
less than the better portion which is found in You alone.  Lift up the eyes of my heart to look upon
You, the source of all life, and be guided by what You know I need.  Let my inward gaze be firm upon You that I
may now and always abide in the truth of Your presence and purpose.

Come, Holy Spirit, and minister to my heart.  You know that my mind knows these things, but often my heart is far away.  Guide me away from the ways of this world to look up and see that the help You give is always present.  Lift me up this day that I would seek the source of life and know Your presence.  What more can I ask?  You, who sees my heart, knows all that I need.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, June 9, 2019

“Too long has my soul had its dwelling with those who hate peace.  I am for peace, but when I speak, they are
for war.”  (Psalm 120:6-7)

We live in a world that is at
war against the Lord.  They are also at
war against one another.  The heart of the
Lord is love and peace.  Those who hear
the voice of the Lord long for peace.
Come then into the Lord’s presence and be one of peace and not war.  Dwell in the presence of the Lord and learn
the eternal values He offers by grace.
Know His goodness and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Lord, I am in conflict.  You know
the hearts of all of those who dwell in this age.  There is war amidst the longing for
peace.  You have promised Your peace to
those who come to You.  Grant that I
would be a person of peace and live the way You have directed me to live.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way of truth that, in
spite of what happens around me, I would pass on Your peace to those around me.

Lord Jesus, You said that You
would leave Your peace with Your disciples.
Help me Lord to live into the peace which You offer.  Guide me according to Your goodness to learn
to live in peace with my neighbors.
Guide me in the way of peace to live this way despite what goes on
around me.  Lord, You have come to save
those who turn to You.  Save me Lord and
guide me forever.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, June 8, 2019

“Sharp arrows of the warrior, with the burning coals of the broom
tree.  Woe is me, for I sojourn in
Meshech, for I dwell among the tents of Kedar!”
(Psalm 120:4-5)

Do you go to the places that
will produce trouble?  Do you listen to
things that will stir what is not right in your heart?  We live in a world filled with trials and
troubles.  Pay attention to the
environment of your ears and eyes.  Flee
from what will bring out wickedness.  Know
that the Lord will protect you but that you also need to do your part and stay
away from places and things that are dangerous to your heart.

Lord, whether it is what I am listening to, what I see as entertainment
or even walking on the streets, there are so many places that bring my heart to
wickedness.  I do not even know all of
the things that affect me.  Guide me out
of the pit that I may come into the light of Your presence and know those
things that are affecting my heart.  Lead
me to meditate upon Your Word day and night.

Lord Jesus, You know this world and the places of corruption.  Guide me that I may stay away from what would tempt my heart to sin.  Lead me according to Your goodness to walk humbly with You this day.  Shield my eyes, ears and heart so that I may not fall prey to the wickedness that is in this world.  Lead me along the narrow road of righteousness for Your name’s sake.  Amen.

Devotion for Friday, June 7, 2019

“In my trouble I cried to the Lord, and He answered me.  Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be
done to you, you deceitful tongue?”
(Psalm 120:1-3)

No matter how far you progress,
you are only as good as your worst moment.
It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes
out.  The Lord knows what sin has done to
the soul.  The one who turns to the Lord
becomes sensitive to the depths of depravity to which we have fallen.  Cry out to the Lord in all of your trouble
and He who hears your prayers will listen to your cry.

Lord, You know my heart.  You
know the depths to which sin has ravaged me.
Bring me out of the pit that I may learn to not speak what is deplorable
nor think what is unthinkable.  Guide me
by Your grace to think those things which are pleasing in Your sight and thereby
guard my lips.  Help me now and always to
listen to You that Your Word may dwell richly inside of me.  Deliver me from bondage to sin.

Jesus, You have come to set the
captive free.  You died on the cross that
we would be freed from sin.  Yet, sin’s effects
still have a hold on my heart.  Lord,
there is no excuse; only Your grace can change me.  Lift me up by Your mercy that I may overcome
those times when I fall for the depravity within me.  Lead me according to Your Word that it would
be Your Word that comes out of my mouth.
Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, June 6, 2019

“Let my soul live that it may praise You, and let Your ordinances help
me.  I have gone astray like a lost
sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your commandments.”  (Psalm 119:175-176)

You know that this life will
end.  The Lord has promised eternal life
to those who trust Him.  Do you long for
your soul to live in the presence of the Eternal One?  You have gone astray.  Your heart has times where it is far from the
Lord.  Do you remember the commandments
of the Lord?  Come now and trust in the
Lord who created You.  Be guided by the
order of creation that He established.

Lord, I do not even know where to begin.  It is You who must rescue me.  Bring my heart to the place where it
surrenders to You.  Lead me according to
the way of salvation You have established.
Help me now and always to simply abide in Your goodness, mercy and
precepts of love.  Help me to be one who
overcomes the adversity of this world that by Your grace I would be Yours
forever.

Lord Jesus, You are the Savior
who has come to gather the lost sheep.
Grant that I would be one of Your lost sheep.  Redeem me according to the Father’s will that
I would be able to abide with You in eternity.
Lead me along the path You know I need to walk that I would learn grace,
mercy and Your precepts.  Teach me to
obey Your will that I would know how to live into the eternal life You promise.  Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, June 5, 2019

“Let my tongue sing of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness.  Let Your hand be ready to help me, for I have
chosen Your precepts.  I long for Your
salvation, O Lord, and Your law is my delight.”
(Psalm 119:172-174)

What comes out of the mouth
speaks of what is in the heart.  Do not
let the heart rule, but come into the discipline of the Lord and be ruled by
what is right and good always.  This
world has been in rebellion and the Lord has offered salvation for those who
come to Him.  Come to the Lord and know
the goodness of life and the promise of eternity.  Let His precepts govern your life.

Lord, daily I am mixed up and often do not know when things are awry.  Lead me by Your Spirit to seek what is right
and good.  Help me now and always to
abide in the hope of salvation You grant to those who trust in You.  Let my longing be for the truth and Your
presence alone that I would not give into the pressures of this world, living
as the unbelieving do.

Jesus, You are the way of life and You grant life through salvation to all who believe.  Guide me, O Lord, in the way of salvation.  Lead me according to Your goodness that I would now and forever abide in the precepts of truth.  Help me to see Your goodness and mercy and to abide there day in and day out.  May my mouth speak Your teaching and my heart and mind abide with You.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, June 4, 2019

“Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to
Your word.  Let my supplication come
before You; deliver me according to Your word.
Let my lips utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes.”  (Psalm 119:169-171)

Lord, You have given all that is
needed to live the life to which You have called all who come through
faith.  There are issues that get in the
way.  You are perfect and we are
imperfect, so we know where the issues come from.  You have promised to deliver all who come to
You from the wickedness of this world.
It shall be done according to Your Word and in the way You have
established.

Lord, I am impatient and want what I want when I see I want it.  Change my heart to trust in You alone.  Guide me according to Your goodness to live
into the life of faith You have given me and to trust in Your timing for all
things.  Let me not get carried away with
my thoughts, but instead spend my time focusing upon You and the promises which
You have already given.  Save me according
to Your will.

Lord Jesus, You have declared that we are already clean by grace through faith.  As to the rest of the life and its struggles, You have promised that these too are in Your hands.  Help me this day to live into the life of faith You have given me.  Diminish my anxiety and lift up my countenance that I would simply abide in You this day, doing what is pleasing in the Father’s sight.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, June 3rd, 2019

“My soul keeps Your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly.  I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
for all my ways are before You.”  (Psalm
119:167-168)

Do you love the Word of the
Lord?  The Word of the Lord loves
you.  He has given You His Word, but do
you live that Word?  It is a very simple
thing, but hard to do.  Meditate upon the
things of the Lord day and night.  Be
guided by the Lord and not by the world.
Know that in the Lord is hope and eternity.  Come then into His presence and see that the
Lord is always good.  Know His Word and
know Him.

Lord, I am often so busy that I do not have time for You.  What a strange thought.  You, who are eternity, renew me when I make
time for You.  Change my heart, O Lord,
that I would have priorities that are in line with Yours.  Give me a love for Your Word that I may abide
with You in all of my thoughts and actions.
Guide me now and always to walk into the way of truth You have put
before me.

Lord Jesus, You have given many
instructions, and I often treat them merely as a Sunday School lesson.  You have called me to always walk with
You.  Guide me this day, O Lord, that I
would truly walk in the way You have established.  Mature my faith so that I may learn and grow
in the ways I need to abide in You.  Save
me from myself this day, Lord Jesus.
Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, June 2, 2019

Praying while holding Bible

“Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous ordinances.  Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.  I hope for Your salvation, O Lord, and do Your commandments.”  (Psalm 119:164-166)

In Hebrew the number seven represents spiritual perfection.  But what is in a number?  Spend the time you need to meditate upon the Lord’s Word — not the time you have, but the time you need.  The journey of salvation requires that we walk the narrow path.  We are distant from the Lord and we need to learn to abide in the truth He has revealed.  Come into His presence and receive His peace.

Lord, You know all that I need.  You have called me by grace and through faith that I may attain the better portion of life.  Guide me according to Your Word to live into a life that is obedient to Your will and become a willing servant.  Grant me to dwell in Your house by leading me according to Your Spirit to take those steps You know I need to take in order to abide with You forever.

Lord Jesus, Your life, as You have revealed it through Scripture, shows us what obedience looks like.  Help me to see more clearly each day how to apply this obedience to my own life.  Lead me by Your example to love what is right and true.  The final part of the Great Commission was to learn to obey all that You command.  Help me this day to learn more about obedience.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, June 1, 2019

“Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of Your
words.  I rejoice at Your word, as one
who finds great spoil.  I hate and
despise falsehood, but I love Your law.”
(Psalm 119:161-163)

In the ebb and flow of history,
rulers are hard on those whom they rule.
As the pressure of Caesar mounts, do you give in or do you stand firm in
the truth of the Lord.  Do not be
deceived nor be misled; the statutes of the Lord are eternal and are good
preparation for all that is to come.  In
season and out of season, the truth of the Lord is forever.  Love what the Lord says.

Lord, You know the difficulties of this and every age.  You have appointed those who serve in
leadership.  You know what happens to a
heart that gains power and is distant from You.
Help me through the coming adversities that I would always follow Your
Word.  Help me to love truth, and from
the inside out, show me how to live in Your truth.  Guide me through all injustices to be what
You are making me to be.

Lord Jesus, You know injustice.  You know what is just.  Guide me this day to live the way You know I need to live.  Help me to see what is right and true and to never compromise the truth, but hold fast and stand firm.  Teach me now and forever how to become like You no matter what comes.  In You alone do I hope for the future.  Lead me now and forever.  Amen.
