Devotion for Wednesday, August 14, 2019

“In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with
strength in my soul.  All the kings of
the earth shall praise You, O Lord, when they hear the words of Your
mouth.”  (Psalm 138:3-4)

Jesus told us not to be anxious
as to what we should say, for in the time of need the Holy Spirit will bring to
our mind the things to say.  If you are
walking with the Lord, He will guide you in all of your ways and teach you the
things He knows you need to know.
Continue to be strengthened knowing that the Lord, who is worthy of all
praise, knows what you need even before you ask.

Lord, You have always been there and all that I need has been provided
for.  Guide me, O Lord, in the way of
truth that I would now and always abide in the truths You have revealed.  Help me to understand so that when the day
comes I may give an answer of the hope that is within me.  Lead me now and always according to Your will
to look to You and praise You for all of Your goodness.

Lord Jesus, You have come that as
many as follow You would know the way of everlasting life.  Lead me this day to abide with You and to
listen as Your Spirit speaks.  Keep me
ever close in the truth that has been revealed for all people.  Let me speak Your words of truth that others
may hear You, even though it is from my mouth.  Grant that I would be bold in faith.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, August 13, 2019

“I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praises to You.  I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.”  (Psalm 138:1-2)

Who is the center of your
being?  Who is the one you look to for
guidance?  The Lord God who created all
things is the One in whom we have our being.
In Him alone will you find meaning for your life.  Give praise to the One who created you, and
be one who praises Him for all His benefits.
Live into the life to which He has called you and be renewed and
transformed as one of His faithful followers.

Lord, this life seems so complex, but it is actually simple.  You are God and You have made us in Your image.  Lead me through the haze of this life that I would come into Your presence and dwell with You all the days of my life.  Guide me according to Your will to become the person You are creating me to be.  Give me Your Word to understand Your will and Your way in and through all things.

You are in me, Holy Spirit.  Daily You speak to me, but often I do not
listen.  Open my ears to hear and my eyes
to see that in humility and in simplicity I would follow Your lead.  Help me now and always to see through the
obstacles that are before me that I would live into the promised life of one
who believes.  Lift me up to do what You
direct me to do this day.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, August 12, 2019

“O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with which you have repaid us.  How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.”  (Psalm 137:8-9)

Babylon is no more.  There is that place of stones that remind us
that it once existed.  The Word of the
Lord speaks and tells the truth.  What
has come to pass is a witness to us that we may believe the importance to us of
the things that the Word says.  Do not
place your hope in the systems of this world, but in the One who created this
world.  Be blessed by trusting in the One
who made all things.

Lord, I look at this world and am tossed about by the waves that come
crashing.  Lift me up to see that all
things are in Your hands and that one day You will see to it that those who
have done harm come to naught.  But let
me trust in what You will do and not in myself.
Guide me, O Lord, according to Your ways that I would be led by You and
the promise of Your Word.

Come Lord Jesus and be my
minister today.  Guide me according to
Your Word and the Father’s will to walk humbly in Your presence.  Teach me to see things as You see them.  Guide me into obedience that I would humbly
obey all that You command.  You have
created me for Your purpose and have redeemed me through Your own blood.  Guide me in the salvation You have prepared
in the sight of all people.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, August 11, 2019

“Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, who
said, “Raze it, raze it to its very foundation.”  (Psalm 137:7)

The day will come when all the
wickedness of this world will be razed.
The faithful will be vindicated.
Do not trust in the justice of men, but trust in the One who created all
things.  Come into His presence and live
in His provision.  Know that He who
promised is not slow as some count slowness, but is patient that all of those
who are His have the opportunity to come into His eternal presence.

Lord, help me to see through whatever turmoil this world brings our
way.  Help me understand that You have a
purpose in and through all things. Guide me to live by Your promises and not by
the circumstances in which I find myself.
Help me to fulfill the meaning of the First Commandment and to have no
other gods before you, but to love, trust, and always obey You always.

Lord Jesus, You have freed us by
grace to live into Your example of being a willing and obedient child of the
Heavenly Father.  Guide me this day to
live out my faith in a way that looks to You and not to this world filled with
wickedness.  Lead me that I may walk in
Your presence and to the glory of the Father.
Keep me close to You that I may not stray from Your side.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, August 10, 2019

“If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget her skill.  May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy.”  (Psalm 137:5-6)

Consider the works of the Lord’s
hand.  What has He promised to the
faithful?  He will not forget those who
have turned to Him and trusted Him for His word.  Come to the Lord who has promised your
salvation through faith and by grace.
Turn to the One who will never forget His promise and live into the hope
He gives.  He is faithful and will
fulfill all that He has promised.

Lord, in times of trouble I wonder where You are.  Remind me through Your Word that Your promise
is always present regardless my circumstances.
Lead me in the way of hope and truth that I may now and always walk by
faith.  Keep me from stumbling over
hindrances that I may now and always live the gift of faith that You have given
me.  May I be found amongst those in whom
You have joy.

Lord Jesus, You have come that
all those who walk with You would be made complete.  Lead me throughout this day that I would
humbly walk with You my Savior wherever You lead.  Lift my eyes up to never lose focus upon Your
never-failing promises that I may be encouraged throughout this life.  Guide me, Lord Jesus, to where I need to go
and give me the will to follow You to the end.
Amen.

Devotion for Friday, August 9, 2019

“For there our captors demanded of us songs, and our tormentors mirth,
saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion.” how can we sing the Lord’s song in
a foreign land?”  (Psalm 137:3-4)

How does one sing the songs of
Zion amidst those who mock the Lord?  Do
you not see that the Lord has placed eternity in you through His grace?  He calls you to simply abide in Him so that
He abides in you.  He is with you always
and has promised to never forsake you.
This world will forsake you, but the Lord never will.  Come then into the Lord’s presence singing
psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, and dwell with Him forever.

Lord, I am tossed about by the fickle waves that toss about in this
world.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way of righteousness
that I may now and always abide in Your presence.  Help me to be able to sing Your praise in all
circumstances wherever I am.  Guide me in
the way You would have me go that I may now and forever live into the life to
which You have called me through grace.

Lord Jesus, giver of grace, guide
me in grace by the power of Your Spirit to live into the calling which You have
given me.  Guide me according to the
Father’s will to see through the obstacles that are before me that I may now
and always live with You and You with me.
Help me this day to see clearly and sing the songs You place upon my
heart.  May I now and always abide wholly
in You.  Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, August 8, 2019

“By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered
Zion.  Upon the willows in the midst of
it we hung our harps.”  (Psalm 137:1-2)

There are seasons where you are
not where you were and long for what you remember.  The Lord has gifted us for a longing for the
eternal presence He gives to those who will be with Him forever.  Meditate upon what the Lord is offering
you.  What He gives is of more worth than
everything else He has created.  He
offers His love and compassion.  He
offers Himself.

You have heard the Gospel message over and over again.  You know that Jesus died for Your sins, but
sometimes life does not go the way you imagined.  What do you do with this?  Do nothing except to wait on the LORD.  Move beyond yourself, come into the presence
of the Lord and begin dwelling in the life as He created it to be lived
forever.  This is the call of Zion which
He has placed in every heart.

Lord Jesus, You have come to save
us and often I think of this as a once and done thing.  You have come to lead the way for us to live
into the salvation You offer, I must walk where You lead.  Lead me, O Lord, that I would go the way You
are leading.  Grant me strength to follow
where You lead.  Remove the hindrances in
me that I would live in the way You know I need to live.  Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, August 7, 2019

“Who gives food to all flesh, for His lovingkindness is
everlasting.  Give thanks to the God of
heaven, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
(Psalm 136:25-26)

The world has teemed with life
from the beginning. All of God’s creatures are provided for and they live.  Marvel at how the world is balanced.  Despite the sensationalism you hear day by
day, see that the Lord provides for all that He has made.  See things for what they are and rejoice in
the Lord God who made them all.  Give
thanks for His goodness.

Lord, I listen to what liars in this world say, and I believe them and
I’m led astray.  Guide me into truth that
I would not deny what I see with my own eyes.
Lead me to marvel at all that You have created knowing that only in You
is there hope and a future.  Lead me, O
Lord, that I may abide in Your truth now and forever.  Teach me to rejoice in Your goodness and
mercy always.

Lord Jesus, You have come not to
condemn the world, but to lead as many as would walk with You humbly into the
life for which we were created.  Guide me
this day, O Lord, that I would walk forever in Your grace, knowing that by Your
hand You will make all things new.  Lift
me up into Your presence that I would humbly abide in You as one of Your own
creations.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, August 6, 2019

“Who remembered us in our low estate, for His lovingkindness is
everlasting, and has rescued us from our adversaries, for His lovingkindness is
everlasting;” (Psalm 136:23-24)

From the least to the greatest
they will know the Lord.  This is the
promise that has been fulfilled through Christ.
All are able to come in to the presence of the Lord and walk with
Him.  All will know the Lord who come by
faith.  Come then into His presence and
walk with Him.  He is your God and He
wants You to be His sons and daughters.
This is the everlasting life: that we live in the presence of the Lord.

Lord, I look for some complex system by which I can attain what I
want.  You have come to give me what I
need.  Guide me, O Lord, for You are the
One who made everything and You know us better than we know ourselves.  Guide me in the way of everlasting life that
I would walk with You now and forever.
Help me overcome those temptations that come along that would direct me
along another path.

Lord Jesus, You have come that we
may have life and have it abundantly.
Lead us to know that only in You is there hope and a future, Guide me
according to Your goodness that I may walk in Your light and become as You
are.  Raise me up with You on my final
day that I may stand before You and rejoice in the goodness of Your grace and
mercy.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, August 5, 2019

“And Og, king of Bashan, for His lovingkindness is everlasting, and
gave their land as a heritage, for His lovingkindness is everlasting, even a
heritage to Israel His servant, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.”  (Psalm 136:20-22)

Israel still exists.  We may do with this what we will, but God
made a promise and it is before us.  It
is a testimony that reminds us that the Lord’s promises are forever.  Come to the Lord and live in His promises.  Know that what He said He would do will
happen as He said it.  He is the One who
created all things and they will go in the way He has determined.

Lord, guide me according to Your goodness to see that in You is hope
and glory.  Guide me according to Your
goodness to live into the life for which You created me.  May I learn from You, from Your Word and by
Your grace to live into the life to which I have been called.  Now and forever, guide me according to Your
goodness and mercy to live by Your Word.

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, lead
me now and always to abide in You that I may grow in Your likeness.  There are many promises You have given.  You have called me in those promises to trust
in You now and always.  Help me this day
to live by faith and not in the way of this world.  The love You have demonstrated is true.  Lead me to live in the truth You have
revealed.  Amen.
