Devotion for Saturday, May 11, 2019

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  I have sworn and I will confirm it, that I
will keep Your righteous ordinances.  I
am exceedingly afflicted; revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.”  (Psalm 119:105-107)

What is it that brings light to
the path you walk upon?  Is it the things
of the world?  Or is it what the Lord has
to say?  We are guided by that which we
follow.  In the darkness of this world we
need light to illuminate the path before us.
The Word of the Lord does light the path for our feet so  we would walk in the way of the Lord.  Come into the light and know the way of
eternal life.

Lord, You are the light that shines in the darkness.  We are people who are walking all too often
in the darkness.  Illumine my footsteps
that I would walk in the light of Your revelation and know the path that You
have set before me.  Guide me according
to Your Word that I would now and always walk in Your ways.  Help me through the dark places to see Your
light always shining.

Lord Jesus, You are the light that shines in the darkness.  You are the light that illuminates all.  Bring me into the light of Your countenance that I would reflect Your light that others may see and come to You.  Help me this day to see clearly as You shine Your light around me and through me that I would walk in the way that is pleasing to the Father.  May I be a child of the light this day.  Amen.

Devotion for Friday, May 10, 2019

“How sweet are Your words to my taste!
Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
From Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false
way.”  (Psalm 119:103-104)

What is sweet in your
mouth?  Is it the profanity of this world
or the Word of the Lord.  We do have a
fondness for that which pleases us.  Come
to the Word and learn its intricacies.
Know that the Lord of all creation has given us a gift finer than the
finest of all that this world could ever come up with.  In the word of the Lord is found hope and an
eternal future.  Come, taste and see.

Lord, You know that I am titillated by the things of this world.  I am forever reading and consuming the things
the world produces, but barely have time to spend with You or in Your
Word.  Guide me, O Lord, to have a refined
taste that knows that Your Word is a great and rich heritage.  Refine my tastes Lord that I may know what is
good and what is harmful.  Lead me in the
right way.

Lord Jesus, Your Words are soothing to the weary soul.  Make my burden light and my yoke easy.  Help me set my thoughts and actions on the better and finer things.  Lead me in the way I need to go this day that I would meditate upon Your Word and know more fully the truth You have revealed.  Reach into my heart and take away what is false that it may be filled with Your truth.  Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, May 9, 2019

“I understand more than the aged, because I have observed Your
precepts.  I have restrained my feet from
every evil way, that I may keep Your word.
I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, for You Yourself have
taught me.”  (Psalm 119:100-101)

Wisdom does not come through
aging, but with intentionality.  Do not
mistake being older with necessarily being wiser.  Yes, there is wisdom that comes in growing
older, but real wisdom comes through effort.
Only when directed by the Director of all will you find the true hope
which is always yours through Him.  Do
not turn aside from the ordinances of the Lord.

Lord, You know the struggle in my heart, for all around me and within
me are the obstacles that get in the way.
Lead me, O Lord, in the way of righteousness that I may now and always
hold fast to the truth of Your commands.
They are good boundaries to protect and promote the goodness of
life.  Bring me to the place where I know
this in the new heart You give me through grace.

Lord Jesus, You know what I need.  You have come that I may have life and have it abundantly.  Guide me into ever deeper understanding of all that this means.  May I now and always walk ever closer with You as You lead, that I would come to the place where I love You and my neighbor as You teach me to love them.  Guide me this day, Lord Jesus, that I would learn what You will teach me.  Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, May 8, 2019

“O how I love Your law!  It is my
meditation all the day.  Your
commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever mine.  I have more insight than all my teachers, for
Your testimonies are my meditation.”
(Psalm 119:97-99)

What are your boundaries?  Not the imposition of what other’s might
think, but your personal boundaries.  The
law of the Lord is only as good for you as it becomes personal for you.  We often have external cultural norms that
guide how we behave, but it is the internal boundaries that count with God.  Meditate upon the law of the Lord and allow
them to become your boundaries.

Lord, help me to see the conflict between what I say I believe and
those things on the inside that truly guide me.
Allow my heart to be softened to see the truth.  Guide me into reflection that what You say
may become who I am.  Let me not resist
You when I do not resist the world.
Through Your Spirit, search me deep within that who I am may become what
You are making me to be.

Lord Jesus, You promised a new life.  Create in me that new life that sheds itself of this world’s promptings to become what I have always been intended to be.  Guide me in the goodness of what has always been true.  Lead me in the way of everlasting life.  In You, O Lord, is the hope of all people, for only in You can we find our way through the fog of this world.  Lead me in meditation this day, O Lord.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, May 7, 2019

“The wicked wait for me to destroy me; I shall diligently consider Your
testimonies.  I have seen a limit to all
perfection; Your commandment is exceedingly broad.”  (Psalm 119:95-96)

What is destruction?  Is it death?
Do we not all die?  The wicked
seek to detach you from the Lord.  Listen
not to the lies of the wicked, but come into the eternal presence of the Lord
and dwell with Him.  Learn His
commandments and know that what the Lord will make of those who are His is
greater that any can imagine.  Come to
the Lord and know the One without limits.

Lord, my mind sees more clearly that my heart.  Yes, I know the wicked are wicked and You are
good, but I do wickedness and ignore You.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of truth.
Change my heart that I would live into the eternal life for which You
are preparing me.  Guide me, Lord, in the
way of salvation, and by Your Spirit help me to walk the narrow way of
truth.  I need You to save me.

Lord Jesus, You have taught us that we are to be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect.  Teach me what this means.  Lead me along right paths that I may grow into what it is You know I need to become.  Guide me, Lord Jesus, in the way of truth and life.  You have come that we might have life and have it abundantly.  Grow in my heart the abundant life You have promised that I may walk with You forever.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, May 6, 2019

“If Your law had not been my delight, then I would have perished in my
affliction.  I will never forget Your precepts,
for by them You have revived me.  I am
Yours, save me; for I have sought Your precepts.”  (Psalm 119:92-92)

Have you heard, “you are what
you eat?”  Whether that is true or not I
do not know, but I do know that the one who consumes God’s Word and truly
allows the Word to nourish the soul is saved from every affliction.  This does not mean afflictions will not
happen, it means that in everything you see the Lord’s hand and His guidance.  Be nurtured by the Lord and the Word He has
given.

Lord, in one sense it is so simple.
Help me to take in what You give that it may nurture me.  In so many ways I resist what You have given.
Though I read I may not understand.  Change my heart, O Lord, that I would now and
always live in the truth of Your precepts.
You give guidance for life but my heart needs to abide in You that I
would always live Your precepts.

Lord Jesus, You have come to not
only show the way, but to save me from a heart that wanders.  Guide me this day that I would learn what it
is that You would have me learn.  Lead me
in the way of truth that I would put into practice Your precepts.  Lord, You have taught me, now please help me
put into practice the things You would have me learn this day that it may be to
the Father’s glory.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, May 5, 2019

“Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.  Your faithfulness continues throughout all
generations; You established the earth, and it stands.  They stand this day according to Your
ordinances, for all things are Your servants.”
(Psalm 119:89-91)

The author and finisher of
creation is the Lord God Almighty.  It is
His, for He made it.  Who then is able to
thwart what has already been written?  To
whom shall we turn if not the Lord.  The
world is His and although we have temporary custody, all belongs to Him.  Be guided not by the wickedness of this
world, but the goodness of the One who made all things and walk in His ways.

Lord, it is a struggle to see through the dim light of this age.  So many things have been twisted that I do
not see through to Your goodness, Lift up my countenance and grant that more of
Your light comes into my soul.  Be Thou
my vision and my stronghold that I may walk boldly and with my life proclaim
Your goodness.  What You have declared is
the reality of eternity.  Guide me in all
of Your ways that I may partake of Your promises.

Lord Jesus, You have come to
rescue us from the way of sin, death and the devil.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way You would have me
go that I may not falter.  Lift me up
when I stumble and help me now and always to see through the haze of this world
to do what is right in Your sight.  Teach
me Your ways that I may walk in them and enable me to hold fast to the truth of
the eternal Word.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, May 4, 2019

They almost destroyed me on earth, but as for me, I did not forsake
Your precepts.  Revive me according to
Your lovingkindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.”  (Psalm 119:87-88)

The wicked of the world are
destructive.  Like their father, the
devil, they kill, maim and destroy.  But
it should not be so among you.  Be those
who uphold the stewardship of the Lord and do what is right in the face of
evil.  Let your life be a testimony of
the goodness of the Lord.  Seek His ways
always and walk in them.  Know that in
the Lord is found all goodness, mercy and kindness.

Lord, I hear the laments of this age and it has only gotten worse since
this verse was penned.  Mankind has
increased in its wickedness.  Guide me, O
Lord, in the way of righteousness that I may live according to Your precepts
and walk in them.  Turn my heart to
always do what is right and good. Lead me in Your ways, O Lord, that I may walk
in them.  Help me to be a good steward.

Lord Jesus, You have come to save us from ourselves.  You know the state of our hearts and the ways in which we are uncaring.  Guide me this day to do those things which are pleasing in Your sight.  Help me now and always to abide in Your promises and know that all things are Yours, for through You and for You they were made.  May I now and always be found in You, O Lord, doing what is pleasing in the Father’s sight.  Amen.

Devotion for Friday, May 3, 2019

“How many are the days of Your servant?
When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?  The arrogant have dug pits for me, men who
are not in accord with Your law.  All
Your commandments are faithful; they have persecuted me with a lie; help
me!   (Psalm 119:84-86)

We often ponder the length of
our days in this age.  Will I live a long
and healthy life?  Rather than focusing
upon yourself, look to the Lord and ask for His benefits.  You are being prepared to be with Him
forever.  Will you spend the time
preparing to be the person the Lord has made you to be?  It is not just a matter of being focused on
then, but realizing what the Lord is implanting in you now.

Lord, help me to have heavenly priorities that are useful here and
now.  Guide me that I would learn Your
precepts and put them into practice.  Let
me not get caught up in lies of this age, but live into the righteousness You
give by grace and lived by faith.  Lead
me, O Lord, according to Your goodness to see the truth of all that You have
revealed through Your Word that I would live according to Your purposes.

Come Holy Spirit and lead me from the inside out according to the Father’s purpose.  Help me now and always to be attentive to those things which I need to learn and never let me fall prey to the lies of the wicked.  May I now and always be guided by Your presence and purpose as You recreate in me the image of Christ my Savior.  Guide me this day to do what is right and pleasing in Your sight.  Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, May 2, 2019

“My soul languishes for Your salvation; I wait for Your word.  My eyes fail with longing for Your word,
while I say, “When will You comfort me?”
Though I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget Your
statutes.”  (Psalm 119:81-83)

We may sometimes think that the
Lord’s favor is conditional.  “Lord, I
have done this, when are you going to do that.”
The Lord is not slow, but awaits the perfect time for all things.  He who knew you before you were in your
mother’s womb knows all that is needed.
Do not forget His statutes, but practice them in season and out of
season.  He who is just is faithful
always.

Lord, in times of trouble and adversity, guide me to see in You the
eternal hope You have promised.  Let me
never forget that I am in Your hands and that You are leading me as You have
always known I needed to be led.  Help me
Lord to see through the smoke of this age that I may walk faithfully in the
righteousness You give.  Grant me
strength to remain always faithful to You.

Lord Jesus, You know adversity.  You have come that we may have liberty and life through You amidst all the struggles of this world.  Help me, O Lord, to see through what this day brings, that I do not like to know, that in all things You will work out my salvation.  Keep me close to You always that I may increasingly become like You.  You are the author and finisher of my faith; lead me, O Lord.  Amen.
