Devotion for Saturday, January 5, 2019

“And a fire blazed up in their company; the flame consumed the wicked. They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image.” (Psalm 106:18-19)

The moderns think such things not possible, yet many in our day worship things made of metal. We worship the created and not the Creator. The One who made all things is the only One who is worthy of honor and praise. Do not worship things created, but the One who made you. Know that only in Him is liberty and life and that apart from Him is the way of wickedness and darkness.

Lord, lead me in the only true way to go that I may walk the narrow road of life. Help me through all the obstacles that are raised up before me that I may now and always walk with You. Many will come along, tempting me to chase after false things, but keep my heart close to You that I may now and always walk in the way of eternal life. You are the One who is worthy of praise.

Holy Spirit, come and minister to my heart. You give all that is needed to live a life of righteousness. Clear the path for me that I may be guided by You and not created things. Lift my spirit that I may abide in Jesus and He in me now and always. Bring me ever closer to being like Him this day, walking the narrow road of salvation and doing what is pleasing in the Father’s sight. Amen.

Devotion for Friday, January 4, 2019

“So He gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease among them. When they became envious of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord, the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and engulfed the company of Abiram.” (Psalm 106:15-17)

In every generation, there are those who contend with the Lord. They seem to have power, but it comes to nothing. Who is able to stand against the Lord? It is the Lord who prevails and in Him alone is everything held together. Do not trust in the ways of any but the Lord and know that all shall come to pass as He has purposed. The Lord alone is God of all.

Lord, in these troubled times, there are many things that are said and done that sway me and tug at my loyalties. Guide me, O Lord, that I may humbly walk in Your ways. Teach me discernment that I would not be deceived by those who demonstrate false powers and do things to lead people away from You. Help me at all times to see that only in You is there hope and a future.

Lord Jesus, You have come to rescue the lost sheep of the Father’s house. You did not come just to do signs and wonders, but to lift up with You all who come to You that in You we may have new life. Lead me this day, O Lord, to walk always in Your ways knowing that in You alone is the salvation prepared beforehand. Help me now and always Lord to cling to You, my Lord and my Savior. Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, January 3, 2019

“They quickly forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel, but craved intensely in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.” (Psalm 106:13-14)

The people who have heard the name of the Lord quickly forget Him and go the way of rebellion. Contentious, they rail against the Lord and do not live according to His Word. It should not be so with you. Do not forget the Lord and the truth that all things are in His hands. Know that the Lord prevails and it shall be His will that will be done. Come into the Lord’s presence and walk according to His way.

Lord, I too know the way of rebellion, for I strive for what I want. Lead me by Your grace that I would know that You alone hold all things in Your hands and that apart from You comes nothing. You are God and there is no one who will prevail against what You have already determined. Lead me, O Lord, in the way of salvation that I would walk humbly in Your sight.

Lord Jesus, You have come to rescue us from our ways of death. Lead me, O Lord, according to Your goodness that I would now and always walk in Your grace. Help me to overcome the way of rebellion that I would learn to obey all that You have commanded. You know my condition and the troubles before me. Lead me to walk now and always with You, O Lord, and abide in Your presence. Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, January 2, 2019

“So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them was left. Then they believed His words; they sang His praise.” (Psalm 106:10-12)

When all is said and done, there will not be one left to rebel against those who walk humbly with the Lord. Realize that He who redeems you knows all that will come. Come then into His rest and know that the Lord God is the Almighty One who will bring all things together that His people would praise Him for His goodness.

Lord, I am contentious and want You to bring about things according to my will. Help me I pray to see that it is Your will that shall be done; and that in You alone is the hope of glory. Guide me in the way of life that You have established from the beginning that I may walk humbly in Your sight. Lead me, O Lord, to be discerning that I may now and always hold fast to the truth of Your Word and obey what You command.

Lord Jesus, You hold all authority and all things are in Your hands. Lead me, O Lord, to walk in the example You give that I would now and always abide in You and You in me. Moment by moment, lead me into the truth of the presence of the Father and the Holy Spirit that I may walk humbly with You all the days of my life. Give me an attitude of praise and thanksgiving for all of Your goodness. Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, January 1, 2019

“Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, that He might make His power known. Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up, and He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.” (Psalm 106:8-9)

The Lord knows His creation. How He does what He does is in His power. Focus on the truth that this is the Lord’s creation. Know that in Him all the future is in His hands. He alone knows all that will come. Trust in the Lord and all of His ways. See that in Him alone is the goodness your heart desires. He will lead you all the days of your life in the way of righteousness and grace.

Lord, my mind battles in this age wanting to control my environment, but You are the One who created the environment. Guide me, O Lord, in the way of truth that I would trust You above all things. Lead me according to Your will to walk now and always in Your way. O Lord, You alone know the way of this life that You have created. Guide me according to Your mercy to walk always with You.

Lord Jesus, You have come to lead the way for those who trust in You. Lead me in the way of salvation knowing that all things are in Your hands. Help me overcome the obstacles before me that I would now and always walk according to the Father’s will. Help me to see clearly the things that are happening around me that I may walk by faith knowing all things are in Your hands. Amen.

Devotion for Monday, December 31, 2018

“We have sinned like our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly. Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; they did not remember Your abundant kindnesses, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.” (Psalm 106:6-7)

Those generations are behind us, but we are just like them. We sin as they sin, for we do not trust the Lord and abide in His ways. We do not learn from those who would teach us, but continue in rebellion thinking we know more than we do. The Lord has come offering salvation that we may first be saved from our selves. Remember the Lord and all of His goodness that You may live as He created life to be lived.

Lord, You know this rebellion, for it repeats itself generation after generation. You have opened my eyes to see that I too am one who is rebellious. Lead me, O Lord, in the way of truth that I may walk according to Your Word and not according to the way of this rebellious world. May my heart be lifted up to see that Your way is the way of life and truth. Guide me by Your word into this way alone.

Lord Jesus, You are the way, truth and life and apart from You is the way of rebellion. Generations have come and gone, all rebelling against the truth. Help me lay down my arms of rebellion and humbly walk according to Your Word. Lead me now and always through the rebellion that is in my heart that I may be guided by Your gentle Spirit into life everlasting. Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, December 30, 2018

“How blessed are those who keep justice, who practice righteousness at all times! Remember me, O Lord, in Your favor toward Your people; visit me with Your salvation, that I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with Your inheritance.” (Psalm 106:3-5)

Lord, You have proclaimed what is right and just. In You alone is the hope of all people. You have commanded that those who walk in Your righteousness are to practice Your justice and mercy. It is not all things for all people, but that Your will be done. It is that we love You and one another. You have given us the basis for the ability to truly rejoice and it is in Your will and in Your way alone.

Lord, the world cries out and screams justice, yet often I see these words accompanied by grave injustice. Help me discern right from wrong that I may learn from You how to be just. Teach me how to practice righteousness that I may be righteous. Guide me into the promises the world cannot give because it continues its rebellion against You. Teach me Your love.

Jesus, You are the love of God which has been given for the sake of all who believe. In You alone, through whom all things have been given life is there hope for the future. Lead me this day along the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake that I may abide in You and You in me, and that I may praise Your name before others. May my works this day reflect Your righteousness and justice. Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, December 29, 2018

“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting. Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the Lord, or can show forth all His praise?” (Psalm 106:1-2)

The Lord is always good. When you think something bad has happened and your thoughts blame the Lord, you are thinking that He is not good. All things work for good for those who love the Lord. Come into the Lord’s presence and know that He is always gracious and good and that He has already provided all that is needed. Give Him praise and thanksgiving at all times and in all places.

Lord, I do, even subtly, blame you for circumstances. Guide me away from selfishness to understand that I am in You and only in You will I find the joy for which You created me. Teach me the new way of thinking that understands by faith that all things have always been in Your hands and that You are making a new creation of all who come through Christ into Your presence.

Lord Jesus, You are making all things new for all who are coming through You by grace into eternity. Teach me this day a little more of the truth of Your presence and the Father’s purpose. Guide me, Holy Spirit, in the narrow way of sanctification that I may now and always live according to the purpose for which I have been created. Create in me a new and clean heart that praises and thanks You always. Amen.

Devotion for Friday, December 28, 2018

“He gave them also the lands of the nations, that they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor, so that they might keep His statutes and observe His laws, praise the Lord!” (Psalm 105:44-45)

What is it that the Lord has given you? Have you already forgotten His many benefits? All that is needed, the Lord has provided. Look through the Ten Commandments and you will see that there is nothing that you lack. Work this day knowing that the joy of the Lord has been given to you. He who knows you knows how to prosper you for the sake of eternity. Live and rejoice in His presence.

Lord, You know those places where I am stunted in growth and conditional in affection. Lead me through all that You have commanded that I may not covet what my neighbor has, nor think that I am not provided for by You. You are gracious and merciful. Bring me to the place of having a heart that is filled with gratitude and one that willingly does all that You have asked me to do.

In Your example, Lord Jesus, help me to walk this day. You have shown the way, truth and You are the life. Guide me to become like You that in all things I offer praise and thanksgiving to You. Help me today, O Lord, to do those things as Holy Spirit guides me, knowing that only in You and by grace can I walk faithfully. May I feel blessed this day and be a blessing to others. Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, December 27, 2018

“For He remembered His holy word with Abraham His servant; and He brought forth His people with joy, His chosen ones with a joyful shout.” (Psalm 105:42-43)

The Lord leads those who look to Him and they rejoice. Look to the Lord and know that His goodness shines through all things in this age. What we call good or bad pale when compared to the inexpressible joy and peace of the Lord which is a gift of grace to all who believe. The Lord has given His promises according to His will and according to His perfect plan. Come as one who believes; taste and see that He is good.

Holy Spirit, You know the depths of my heart and those places where I waver and do not trust. You know when I see circumstances contrary to my will; and that my faith is based more upon what I experience than the truth that You are with me always. As You led Abraham toward the promised land, lead me that I may now and always walk humbly under Your guidance and see more clearly the truth of eternity.

Lord Jesus, You know the way I need to go. You have provided that way; help me now to follow in the path You created. Guide me to rejoice in each day’s gift of life and to be one who thus rejoices by knowing that I am in Your eternal plans. Lead me today to be one who has joy in the truth, and lifts You up as the One in whom I trust. May I now and always abide in the faith You give. Amen.
