Devotion for Sunday, December 3, 2017

“On account of the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, let them even be caught in their pride, and on account of curses and lies which they utter.  Destroy them in wrath, destroy them that they may be no more; that men may know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth.”  (Psalm 59:12-13)

The wicked will come to nothing though it be a generation or even many generations before their deeds are remembered no more.  Do not spend your energy on those who will perish, but keep your eye on the prize of eternity which the Lord offers to the faithful.  Know that He is mighty to save and will lead you in all of your ways in His path of righteousness.

Lord, help me see through the confusion of this age the goodness that You offer before me.  Help me now and always to see clearly the truth You have revealed once for all.  Guide me in the way of truth that I may walk now and always in Your ways.  Help me to see Your goodness and know that in You is the hope for all in this age of sin.  May I now and always be guided by Your salvation.

Lord Jesus, by Your grace alone is there hope and a future for all who are captives in this age of sin.  Guide me now and always to see the hope of glory You offer through forgiveness.  Lead me to see in You alone my guidance through everything that will come.  Help me now and always to live with You as my example, by Your grace able to meet all that will come this and every day.  Amen.

“Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your power.  Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth.”  (Psalm 54:1-2)

Your name O Lord, what is it?  Have you not sent Yeshua, which means, literally, Your Salvation?  You are the Savior.  There is no other.  You have come as one of us to lead the way for all who will listen.  You are the One who, from the beginning, has called to as many as would hear, to hear the call of Your voice, heed Your voice and listen to the call You give.  Let my mouth be full of Your praise.

Lord, You know us better than any of us know ourselves.  You created us.  You know who we are.  Lead me away from what I think up to the place where I see where You have revealed reality.  Guide me in Your ways O Lord that I would be vindicated by Your power and majesty.  Let my mouth be filled with words of Your goodness and praise You all the day long.

Lord Jesus, You have come to show the way.  Through You, who is the way, truth and life, You have pointed to the Father who offers to all who believe and eternal relationship.  Guide me in the eternal way, established from the beginning, that I would walk with You, as You lead, to where You are taking me.  Help me now and always to hold fast to the prayer of my heart, which is to walk in the way of truth.  Amen.

“You let your mouth loose in evil and your tongue frames deceit.   “You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son.”  (Psalm 50:19-20)

It is not what goes in the mouth, but what comes out that defiles and destroys.  What is in your heart is revealed in what comes out of your mouth.  Take care to see the wickedness that is a part of this generation that has polluted your thinking.  Turn to the Lord and He will clean you from the inside out.  See that the Lord who saves will bring you to where you need to be.

Lord, I may pretend to the world which sees me, but You know my heart.  You know the things that go on inside of me and the ways in which I think and speak that are not pleasing in Your sight.  Guide me by grace to repent and come before You willing to be cleaned that I may speak what is right and fitting.  Lead me in Your ways O Lord and through Your Spirit help me to follow.

Lord Jesus, You know what it is to walk in this world in the midst of all its strife.  By Your example and through Your grace, lead me to live as You lived in this world holding fast to what is true and being faithful to the Father’s will.  May I learn from You to do the Father’s will in and through all things knowing that I shall become like You just as the Word promises.  Amen.
