“How long shall the wicked, O Lord, how long shall the wicked exult?  They pour forth words, they speak arrogantly; all who do wickedness vaunt themselves.”  (Psalm 94:3-4)

The wicked of this age seem to rule.  It will be so until the Lord returns and this age is brought to an end.  One falls and another rises to take their place.  You know this, for you have experienced it.  Be guided not by the wickedness of this age, but by the call to grace and mercy through our Lord who saves us from the wickedness of this age.  Look up to the Lord and live into His promises.

Lord, I am often distracted by the wickedness of this age.  It makes no sense to me.  Lead me by Your Word to see things more clearly.  Guide me according to Your goodness to be one who lives by faith and not by the things I see around me.  Help through all the difficulties of this age to be faithful.  You have given me the hope of eternity.  Help me to live into that hope.

Incarnate Hope, Who has come to rescue the downtrodden, lead me this day through the mess of this world to be faithful to the call You have given me.  Guide me by Your grace to live into the life of one who is faithful.  Help me now and always to see the truth that You are the Savior and that the Father is worthy of all honor and praise.  Lead me Lord Jesus.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, August 05, 2018

“For our shield belongs to the Lord, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.  Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ones, and said, “I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.”  (Psalm 89:18-19)

The Lord knows the times and events before they unfold.  He has given help to those who are His and grants strength to those He appoints.  Be among those whom the Lord knows and walk in His ways.  Know that Your days have been seen by the Lord and He goes before you.  Around you are the cloud of witnesses who join as those under the Lord’s guidance and protection.

Lord, help me to see that it is not a matter of my being special, but as one who has come under the provision of Your grace and mercy.  Lead me in the way You would have me go that I may now and always live according to Your will and walk in Your way.  Lift my spirit up to see in You the hope of glory and to know that You watch over all.  May I be found always as one who walks willingly in Your sight.

Lord, You have appointed the times and seasons.  You have appointed those who rule over us.  You are the One who unfolds history.  Guide me humbly to walk in Your presence and praise You who is worthy of all praise.  Lead me this day to do those things You appoint me to do knowing that all things work together for good for those who love You.  May I be dedicated to You this day and every day, my Lord and my God.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, July 31, 2018

“O Lord God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.  You rule the swelling of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them.” (Psalm 89:8-9)

All things are subject to the One who made them. In Him is hope and life and true liberty. Come into the presence of the Lord and see the goodness of His creation. Come into the Lord’s will and way and know how life is meant to be lived. Be guided by His precepts and walk according to His will and see the goodness He brings to those who love Him. He who is all-powerful will hold you in His hands.

Lord, continue to strengthen the faith You have given me that I would walk humbly before You, my Savior and my God. Guide my footsteps to walk in Your ways all the days of my life. Help me now and always to look to You for all answers and to apply them to my life. You alone are able to direct my way, that I would walk as one of Your holy ones. Lead me, O Lord, always.

Holy Spirit, come upon my heart and lift my countenance to abide in Your presence and walk according to Your direction. Lift up my thoughts that I disdain the wickedness of this world and do those things which are pleasing in the Father’s sight. Help me through the obstacles that come my way that I would now and always live according to Your leading and direction. Amen.
