“Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall observe it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law and keep it with all my heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.” (Psalm 119:33-35)

Understanding is not some potion you drink but the hard work of hearing, reading, meditating, praying and learning to live the instructions of the Lord. To seek understanding is to be willing to do the work to gain it. Ask the Lord and He will give you understanding. Walk in His ways and He will teach you His statutes. Come to know the Lord and He will give you knowledge.

Lord, daily I become busy with the things of life. Help me, I pray, to not be hindered in the most important relationship of eternity. Guide me in the way I should go that I may never veer from the path that You have set before me. Lead me, O Lord, in the way of truth that I would now and always walk humbly in the way of righteousness which You have established for all people.

Lord Jesus, You have commanded that we learn to obey all that You have commanded. Lead me in the way of learning Your statues that I would forever walk more closely with You and the way of everlasting life. Guide me this day that I may gain understanding. Grant that I would listen as You speak and respond as You direct that this day I may become a little more like You. Create in me an understanding heart, O Lord. Amen.
