“But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13).

Do you respect those who labor among you?  This world has increased in disrespect and the call of equality has gone to the point of making it a public wrong if one dares to see any difference between one person and another.  We are all different and we are to love each other as the Lord loves each one of us, but we are also to respect where respect is due.  Esteem those who work in the Lord.

Almighty Father, there are times when it is easy to respect those who hold positions of authority and times when it is not.  Our culture is so charged with sides that the anger and vitriol flows when it is someone another does not like.  Teach me how to respect all who are in authority, praying for them as I pray to You that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Lead me to learn how to respect according to Your will.

Lord Jesus, You know all the problems in this world better than I, yet You give these admonitions so that I might learn how to live differently.  Guide me Lord in the way in which You would have me go.  Grant me the right attitude toward those who lead.  Help me to be respectful to all who are in authority and to esteem those who are leading Your church.  Lord, You know where I have weaknesses. Guide me to live beyond these in and through You.  Amen.
